The Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Anyebe Arisaojo Monday, on Tuesday, inaugurated a 10-member committee to put together and oversee the Kogi State Governor's Cup Soccer Competition.
Addressing the committee members in Lokoja, the State capital, Hon. Monday explained that the inauguration was in fulfilment of Governor Ahmed Ododo's promise to restore the competition in order to get Kogi youths engaged through sports and other creative activities.
He urged the members of the organising committee to set out to work immediately and interface with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful hosting of the soccer fiesta.
He said, “the inauguration of this Committee is part of the modalities to fulfill Governor Ododo's promise of restoring competitive sport and get our youths gainfully engaged through sports and other creative activities.”
The Commissioner said members of the committee were selected based on their competence, advising that all Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the State should participate in the competition.
Responding on behalf of members of the committee, the lead consultant at OHM Sport, Hassan Enesi Mohammed, assured that members were aware of the importance of the competition to the State and assured the State government they would deliver the best ever football tournament to be witnessed in the State.
For his part, the director of Sports in the State and member of the committee, Mr Ogazuma David, promised that the committee would not disappoint.
