Abia State's new digital tax system, recently launched by the governor, Alex Otti, has commenced with the people urged to key into the novel mode of payment.
This followed a directive by the governor, enjoining the residents, particularly the business community, to fulfil their civic obligations by paying the approved taxes and levies.
This was contained in a statement by the chief press secretary to the governor, Kazie Ukoh, which was made available to newsmen, yesterday, in Umuahia, the state capital.
“The general public is by this notice advised to pay their taxes and levies promptly as the revenue enforcement taskforce set up by the government is expected to commence operation immediately,” it said.
It added that the government had been moving around the state sensitising the general public through the appropriate organs on the new tax regime, the need for the payment, and the mode.
