Ahead of the planned 20,000 hectares of rice plantation in the state Ogun West, Governor Dapo Abiodun yesterday  commissioned the first phase of a 21 – kilometer 21km Ibooro-Imasayi-Ayetoro road in the Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.

The road, which was last upgraded during the era of the Western Region government, was designed to foster trading activities within and around the various communities in the axis, as well as removing obstacles associated with the hard-to-reach areas of the agrarian conurbation.

Aside from providing the Yewa-Awori residents with the needed opportunities for accessing government's various facilities like schools and medical centers among other utilities, construction of the road was also projected to open doors for prospective investors that are willing to do agric value chain businesses in the state.

Speaking during the commissioning of the road at the Imasayi-Iboro, Governor Abiodun disclosed that a 20, 000 hectares rice plantation berth in the state before the end of September this year, stressing that his administration has concluded plans towards turning the duo of Yewa North and Imeko Afon Local Governments for the project that will make Ogun State, a rice development and rice processing center in Nigeria.

He said the choice of Yewa North and Imeko Afon local government areas was borne out of the traditional beliefs that the zone has an agricultural potential to accommodate such projects.

“One of my legacies will be to leave these council areas and have them defined truly as the bread baskets of not just this state, but for the entire country.

“We want to turn this part of Yewaland into a rice capital of Nigeria. We already have the investors that love the responses to turn this place into the rice development and rice processing center in Nigeria and I am deeply committed to that as such will be one of the legacies of my administration”.

“Government is not putting a dime into it but will just be providing the needed enabling environment for the investors to turn this place into a rice capital of Nigeria. This is in line with our Public Private Partnership (PPP) agenda. We will lift up the economic prosperity of this place; it will trickle down to individual prosperity and the lives of our people will never be the same again”.
